Tomatin, hill of the juniper bush

On the first day of Christmas Tomatin has sent to me … some Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky ….

With some twitterfriends, I’m joining the #12dramsofxmas. We’ve sent each other mystery whiskies, signed with a number. This is our way to countdown to Christmas. Tomatin has sent us, the first dram, the Tomatin 15 yr, to start this golden adventure with. We share our thoughts on twitter. But not allowed to tell, our suspicions about the name of the whisky… and that’s the hard part!

The name Tomatin comes from the same place in the neighbourhood. Tomatin comes from the Gaelic and means ” The hill of the juniper bush “, you pronounce it as Tom-Ah-Tin.

  • Name: Tomatin
  • Type: Single Malt
  • Country: Scotland
  • Price per standard amount: € 35,00

It was so sweet, this bottle came with a Christmas card. The first one I received this year.  In this picture, you see a sign with God Jul. This means Merry Christmas.

I’ve bought this one last year in Norway, have I celebrated Christmas with my family.  And the purple thing, that’s a flower for the effect!

I was pleased to the nose and taste this on the first day!

The Tomatin 15yr looks just like pure gold. A lovely color for whisky. Just a great whisky to countdown to Christmas. Not just by looking at it, but the nosing and tasting was a great adventure.

  • Color: Deep, pure gold
  • Nose: Very delicate aromas of sherry, green apples, spicy sweet and malty tones.
  • Taste: Vanilla, oaky tones, tropical fruit, banana, papaya, lemon and delicious chocolates.
  • Finish: Long aftertaste with lovely hints of fruit flavours and vanilla

Suggestions: just pure or a small drop of water

I give this whisky an 8 out of 10.
