Review: The Blended Whisky Company, the XL blend

The XL Blend – Batch 1 from The Blended Whisky Company. A remarkable blended Scotch whisky made with whiskies no less than 40 years old and it’s bloody delicious, I’m told. Thinking about this information, the curiosity got bigger and bigger by the minute.

This wee little sample bottle had to be killed for that delicious 46,2% experience.

XL, is Extra-Large. At least that is the first thing that crossed my mind. XL in a small bottle, that is a bit odd. But size doesn’t matter, they say. And XL can also mean, that this whisky is bigger on the inside. Think about the flavor, the experience, the huge effect this can be on your body and soul. And the XL, ever thought this is the Roman Numeral for 40? That is just puzzling.

“The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra”

  • Color: Golden sweet corn
  • Nose: Warm red fruits, strawberries, raspberries, forest fruit all blend together with hints of cinnamon, caramel, vanilla, peaches, raisins, mandarin, African rooibos tea, lemon, grapefruit and a complexity of licorice and black berries
  • Taste: Warm, vanilla, honey, raisins, toffee, custard filled with warm tropical fruits, smashed nuts with a drop of maple syrup, covered with a splash of lemon, lime and pineapple juice
  • Finish:  Warm, lingering and a strong bite

Suggestions: None

The Blended Whisky Company has made indeed a bloody delicious whisky. And not just the whisky, the label is fabulous too. A bottle (or more) of the XL Bend would fit in any cabinet, in every home, suited for man and women.
