Twitter Tasting, The Arran Malt, Master of Distilling

This year, 2017, Master Distiller James MacTaggart celebrates his 10th anniversary at the Isle of Arran Distillery.

Reason to celebrate this online with 10 of their White Stags and 8 whisky writers from the whisky community. This with an anniversary single malt, the 2007 Vintage 10yr old release of the Arran Malt.

Time for confetti … and a good dram.

Jaci from Arran Whisky was the perfect person to guide us through the tasting. Jaci told us that, James MacTaggart was very pleased with the bottling and that this has been brought to life to mark his anniversary. James’s 10th Anniversary Limited Edition 10 yr old Single Malt, was the golden liquid that was the centre of this evening. No wonder.

“James always repeats the fact that he really likes the effect a Bourbon barrel”

The original barrels for this whisky process came from Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, Heaven Hill & Buffalo Trace, 48 barrels in total. And the colour of this amazing whisky? That’s all because of the casks, they do all the work. No need to falsify!

Limited Edition 10 year-old Single Malt (54.2%)

  • Color: Burnished Amber
  • Nose: Very sweet, lemon, pineapple, coconuts, toffee, caramel and also hints of almonds and citrus.  reminds me of a rainy day in the woods, the smell, the smell of nuts, leafs and natural influences
  • Taste: Upside down cake, creamy, complex, pineapple, sweet, spicy. It gives me a lot of pleasure! Wow, a bomb for sure!
  • Finish: Warm, long and feels like confetti. A sweet mouthfeel.

For me, James MacTaggart is a true whiskyarchitect! I can’t wait for “20 years making a mark”.
