I admit, for I have a weakness for Scandinavia. It is not a secret that I am enthusiastic about the Swedisch Mackmyra whisky. It is hard to pronounce the names of the whisky, but that is always a challenge to be accepted.
Moment Körsbärsrök, cherrysmoke was a challenge. And the Moment range is part of the most exclusive range of Mackmyra.
Mackmyra is now introducing a new limited edition in the exclusive Moment series; it is aimed at upcoming winter festivities and dinners. Moment Körsbärsrök (Cherry Smoke) is a sophisticated single malt whisky that has matured at Bodås Mine since being distilled at Mackmyra Bruk.
This whisky provides an elegant balance between spiciness, sweetness and smoke. It will be launched as a very limited edition that can be ordered from 11 November 2020.
John Dewar & Sons unveiled its latest expression from The Golden Dram – Aberfeldy 15 Years Old, finished in French wine casks from Pomerol, Bordeaux.
The finest quality red wine casks from Pomerol were selected to finish the new limited-edition expression, ensuring that the wood complements and elevates Aberfeldy’s distillery character, not mask it. Initially spending 15 years in a combination of Bourbon re-fill and re-char casks, the whisky has undergone a second maturation period of around 4-5 months, adding an extra dimension of flavour. Malt Master, Stephanie MacLeod carefully monitored maturation and flavour development within each cask until the desired flavours had been achieved.
Swedish whisky hits me at the right spot again. I’ve got a weakness for Scandinavia, there was no way I would dislike the whisky. At the contrary, I love it. Even Svensk Rök (Swedish Smoke) has a particular smell and palate that keeps you calm at all times.
The whisky reminds me of yoga, silence for 1.5 hours and just enjoying the moment and the positions. Listening to a calm voice and letting it all in. Similar with this whisky is my experience, very smooth
Mackmyra Moment Fjällmark, a Swedish single malt whisky is part of the Moment series of the Mackmyra distillery. It is the series of their most exclusive casks, handpicked by Master Blender Angela D’Orazio.
Mackmyra Moment Fjällmark was for me the perfect whisky to celebrate Burnsnight 2019, that took place on the 25th of January.
A while ago, around Christmas, I received a sample all the way from Sweden. Ursula, a friend of mine had sent me a sample of a sherry finished whisky from Tullibardine with a percentage of 63.5% and with a big red heart on the bottle.
For a 2 years Sherry Finish in a Bruichladdich cask, this is really a sample, sent with love.
Hello, my name is Johan. Originally from the Netherlands, but I live in Sweden since the year 2008.
I became more or less seriously interested in whisky and everything around whisky in the autumn of 2014 when a trail running friend and I visited the Glenkinchie distillery south of Edinburgh. We planned a weekend filled with trail running in the Pentland Hills and around Arthurs Seat, but in that weekend we both became whisky “believers”. We truly believed, from that moment, that the Glenkinchie whisky we tasted was “heaven on earth”.

Mackmyra’s latest seasonal release, Skördetid, is an elegant whisky with six months finish in Masi Costasera Amarone casks, which results in a whisky with sweet, vinous notes of grapes, raisins and a herbal spiciness. Skördetid, which is Swedish for “harvest time”, is the result of close collaboration between Mackmyra and the Italian wine producer Masi, and is available in limited quantities.
This is the first time Mackmyra has presented a seasonal whisky with Amarone cask finishing.
Mackmyra launches Expedition, a limited edition Swedish single malt whisky produced exclusively for the travel retail market. Expedition honours the craft of whisky making and the pursuit of new and inspiring discoveries.
Expedition is an elegant single malt whisky with a hint of light, spicy smoke. It is mostly matured in bourbon casks as well as Swedish oak casks that have held Swedish cloudberry wine for some months, giving the whisky a unique Swedish mark.
