In the past I tried a couple of Arran’s whisky range. Their high reputation was the top reason I was really looking forward to the 18 yr old. The Arran 18 yr is a lovely single malt scotch whisky produced in the Scottish island of Arran.
This time, I tried a whisky that was matured on the best ex-sherry casks and ex-bourbon casks, what gives it a very complex taste. I also had a chocolate heart of gold ready for that extra adventurous bite.
The Isle of Arran Distillers have launched a competition to find the official poem for their Lagg Distillery. The winning entry will take pride of place onsite at the new distillery that is due to open in the Spring of 2019. Budding writers have been tasked with producing a poem that beautifully captures the Isle of Arran’s history, landscape or, quite simply, spirit – whisky or otherwise.
The closing date for entries is Friday 14 December and the winner and two runners up will beannounced on Burns Night, Friday 25 January 2019. As well as having their poem immortalised at the Lagg Distillery, the winning entry will be exclusively published in Scottish Field magazine, the official media partner for the competition. The winning poet will also be invited to the official opening of the new Lagg Distillery & Visitor Centre in Spring of next year. The two runners up will receive an exclusive Lagg Distillery goodie bag.
The team at the Isle of Arran Distillers is celebrating four coveted awards at this year’s International Wine & Spirits Competition. The independent whisky maker picked up two gold medals for its Arran 10 and 18-year-old Single Malts. The Bothy Quarter Cask and Lochranza Reserve claimed silver outstanding medals.
The International Wine & Spirits Competition is now in its 49th year and sets the international benchmark for quality. Entries are received from nearly 90 countries and each product is sampled by the judging panel, which consists of over 400 global experts.
The award-winning Isle of Arran Distillers is launching its latest series of limited-edition whiskies, this time celebrating the unique beauty of the landscape on the island. The first of The Explorers Series pays homage to Brodick Bay, which can be found on the east coast of the Isle of Arran.
The Brodick Bay whisky has been matured for a minimum of 20 years in both Bourbon barrels and Sherry hogsheads before being finished in Oloroso Sherry butts, sourced directly from Bodegas Tradicion in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. The result is a memorable sweetness with rich layers of intense fruit.
This was my first Harrow Whisky Festival visit and this venue is a wonderful place for such an event. The surroundings are breathtaking and looking back, I wish I had planned for more time around the event.
Nevertheless, I arrived about 20 minutes early to the start of the event and I had the opportunity to chat to some of the locals who were at the start of their adventure into the whisky world. Events like this around the country are providing a wonderful opportunity for many individuals to divulge into whiskies that they would never have thought about even trying.
Isle of Arran Distillers, sponsors of Burns Unbroke, a brand new multi-arts Robert Burns Festival have announced a series of masterclasses at the inaugural celebration, and a cocktail reception on the opening night of the Festival.
To be held on the 26th January, 1st February, 15th February and 1st March, the masterclass tastings will include a selection of expressions from the award-winning Arran Malt range including the Robert Burns Malt – the only whisky officially endorsed by the World Burns Federation.
Under the tutelage of the experienced, friendly staff from the Isle of Arran Distillery Festival goers will have the chance to taste the ‘Arran Waters’ with five drams of the Arran Malt, as well as the delicious Arran liqueur, discovering the inspiration and craft behind each. With Christmas, a distant memory and spring a long way off, the end of January isn’t a traditionally cheerful time unless you follow Scottish tradition and throw a party to rival Hogmanay on the 25th. Looking across the Firth of Clyde to the Isle of Arran from the Ayrshire mainland on a clear day fascinated me as a child. Trips to Arran with my family and school excursions felt like I was a million miles away from anywhere.
