The finest quality red wine casks from Pomerol were selected to finish the new limited-edition expression, ensuring that the wood complements and elevates Aberfeldy’s distillery character, not mask it. Initially spending 15 years in a combination of Bourbon re-fill and re-char casks, the whisky has undergone a second maturation period of around 4-5 months, adding an extra dimension of flavour. Malt Master, Stephanie MacLeod carefully monitored maturation and flavour development within each cask until the desired flavours had been achieved.

This is a whisky I would recommend to everyone. Especially to those who never had a drop of whisky or says to dislike whisky. Not that long ago, someone told me out of the blue, she didn’t like whisky, at all! I know, its unbelievable, how and why, questions remained unanswered.
I just can’t imagine, that someone doesn’t like this spirit for it’s lovely. Aberfeldy for example is a golden dram that suits everyone, just give it some time, air and love. I am convinced that she and others would love it …
The casktype that was used for this whisky was a first fill sherry puncheon. The outturn of the Aberfeldy Distillery 1993 release is 444 bottles.
Expertly hand crafted by ABERFELDY’S Malt Master, Stephanie Macleod, the distillery known for its Golden Dram has launched a 16-year-old and 21-year-old ABERFELDY, finished in the finest Madeira casks. Spending up to 12 months in the ex-wine casks before bottling, the extra maturation period in this combination of casks creates the perfect balance of flavour between ABERFELDY’S honeyed richness with the sweet notes of Madeira wine.
Aberfeldy, well known for its beautiful area in Highland Perthshire and whisky. The name Aberfeldy comes from the Gaelic and means “from the mouth of the Poldi Burns”, the river Tay flows along the Dewar’s Aberfeldy distillery.
On the evening of Wednesday, November 22, a couple of whisky friends and I gathered online to enjoy and share our thoughts about the core edition from the Dewar’s Aberfeldy distillery and two delectable single casks whiskies, hand selected by Dewar’s Master Blender, Stephanie MacLeod.
The morning of Friday 17 November, dawned cloudily, but also chilly, as we made our way into Edinburgh and the Abbey Whisky Bar. On arrival at 8:30 am, we all had a nice bacon roll and coffee served by the owner Steve.
The mini-bus arrived and fifteen of us took a seat for the trip North to Aberfeldy. The first problem being to get out of the city! Not a small achievement with the seemingly everlasting roadworks everywhere. Eventually, we crossed the new “Saltire Bridge” and drove over into Fife. As the miles rolled by the scenery changed from rolling hills to a high hill with deep glens with lots of forests as we made our way into Perthshire.
The time passed quickly and soon we arrived at Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery.
I’ve tasted a lot of whiskies in the past, but not every tasting-note that has been written by me, has been published online yet. So, I’ve decided to make a top 10 from my online whiskylist.
A sample that has been waiting for a long time. The tasting notes of the Aberfeldy 21 yr crawled out of the drawer that stands in the bedroom.
