Review: Gordon & MacPhail Caol Ila 1984

Caol Ila Distillery 1984, a 33 year old single malt scotch whisky from Islay. This beautiful whisky was distilled on Monday, December 11 1984 and bottled on Tuesday, July 3 2018.

The casktype that was used for this whisky was a refill sherry hogshead. The outturn of the Caol Ila Distillery 1984 release is 216 bottles.

This whisky is part of the Gordon & MacPhail range to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Connoisseurs Choice. A range that remains true to George Urquhart’s original vision and philosophy.

Gordon & MacPhail Caol Ila Distillery 1984 – 52.8%

  • Color: Sweet gold
  • Nose: Warm red fruit, there is a road of strawberries, raspberries, forest fruit with a side road of banana, coconuts, almonds, fresh apples, peaches, pineapple juice, papaya, squeezed grapefruit with a hint of saltiness
  • Taste: Peach, warm, lovely warm red fruit mingled with the freshness of citrus, lemon, lime, apples, ripe banana, soaked peaches in caramel, freshly chopped mango, creamy touch and a complexity of walnuts and almonds
  • Finish: Sweet, sticky and a wee bit oily

Suggestions: One drop of water does wonders for this excellent character!
