Interesting to know is that each whiskey has been traditionally hand selected to include the most exceptional quality single pot still and single grain Irish whiskeys laid down over the last 4 decades.
In his final days as Master Distiller, Brian Nation continued the long-standing tradition of hand-selecting whiskeys reserved for this coveted annual expression from Midleton Distillery’s exceptional inventory for the last time. Midleton Very Rare 2020 showcases an expression of whiskeys aged from 13 to 35 years in lightly charred ex-bourbon American oak barrels.
Midleton Very Rare 2020 – Bottled at 40% – RRP €180
- Color: Sweet lingering warm gold
- Nose: Complexity of a fruit-bowl filled with ripe peaches, oranges, pineapples, mango, sprinkled with coconuts, vanilla covered in dark chocolate, sultana’s and in the background even some honey, vanilla and burned toast, the smell of oak is present, very nice
- Taste: Very exotic, chopped bananas, dried coconut chips, citrus-fruit, mango juice combined with little pieces of oranges dipped in chocolate and in the background, some nutmeg, pepper and fantastic sweetness
- Finish: Well balanced, sweet and satisfying
(Midleton Very Rare 2020, a unique parting gift from former Master Distiller Brian Nation.)
Suggestion: This is a whiskey to drink neat. So, no ice and not even a drop of water.
A fantastic and inspiring whiskey, with a wide diversity of flavors and aromas. The more time you take to smell and enjoy the foreplay (you have to flirt with whiskey), the more you discover. I tried this whiskey in a Glencairn glass and even a NEAT glass. As you might know, they are not the same, far from it. However in this case, the NEAT glass gave more aroma and the Glencairn gave me more a flavor explosion.
When you have the desire to discover more aromas and flavors, try this with beauty your eyes closed!
