It’s Bowmore time, a 15 yr old one this time. Matured in an inspired combination of both bourbon and sherry casks, Bowmore 15 yr Darkest has spent three years in Oloroso sherry casks. That gives this whisky that fantastic balance…
Recently I organized my whisky samples, were I re-found this nice Bowmore sample.
I couldn’t resist to open this bottle and let my nose make the decision, should I get myself a glass or not!. My nose told me that this whisky was very nice balanced and that I should get a glass and start pouring.
- Name: Bowmore
- Type: Single Malt
- Country: Scotland
- Price per standard amount: € 50,00
The lemon, honey, red fruit and caramel that I experienced with the 12 yr old, the Bowmore 15 yr Darkest is slightly different. I can say that I’m on a different place now. The 15 yr Darkest one is a bit more creamy.
I compare the taste of this whisky with eating a bag of toffee sweets. And you must know I like toffee sweets, and caramel! Once I open a bag with this sweetness, It’s going into my mouth, directly!
But this whisky also reminds me of the dutch stroopwafel! If you got the opportunity to try, just try and fall in love with the dutch stroopwafel.
- Color: Fine gold
- Nose: Very lovely aromas of peat, apple, sweet coffee, toffee, caramel and smoke with wood in the background
- Taste: a creamy texture, a soft and full smoke flavor, malt, grapes, sweet sherry, oak, vanilla and a hint of chocolate
- Finish: Short to medium long with hint with roasted coffee
Suggestions: just pure, but I liked it also with a small drop of water.
I give this whisky an 8 out of 10.
