A while ago, a friend of mine has sent me a lovely sample of The Balvenie 12 yr old. I was so pleased that he did. I was looking forward to have a nip from this beauty of 47,8%. In the past I’ve heard extraordinary tasting experiences.

Instead of of wandering I had the opportunity to try.

The Balvenie Distillery, built in 1892 by William Grant, is located north of Dufftown near Glenfiddich and they are one of Scotland’s most traditional distilleries. The Balvenie I tasted is a Single Barrel First Fill 12 year old single malt whisky, aged in a first fill, ex-bourbon cask.

  • Color: Lovely sweet golden
  • Nose: Honey, vanilla, cinnamon powder, coconut, mango, cereal, toffee, fresh cake covered with warm caramel and brown sugar
  • Taste: Very tropical with cinnamon in a mix of apples, smashed coconut, banana, mango, a complexity of warm apples, lemon and hints of citrus and
  • Finish: Long, sweet, warm and tingling

This whisky was very surprising for the nose was suggestion something else, when inhaling for the first time, but when after a few times more, the true identity came out. The whisky became more challenging and sweeter. When you are a keen about traveling, The Balvenie Single Barrel, first fill is a recommendation to take your taste-buds on a adventure.

“The beauty of the whisky is its variety of tastes, impressions and its transience. Single barrel fillings underline this experience due to their limited number of bottles in a beautiful way. I have put my focus on this art of whisky and am always surprised and amazed how individual can be a dram.“
(Quote by David)

Suggestions: one drop of water makes this whisky so much sweeter. When you have the chance to have a glass of this Balvenie beauty, try one drop and you will be surprised.

I give this whisky an 8.5 out of 10
